Wool yarn is a thread spun from the wool of sheep, goats, camels, or other domestic animals. Since ancient times, the Kyrgyz washed the wool, beat it, and using a spindle or other spinning tools, transformed it into long and durable thread.
Wool yarn was used in almost all areas of life: it was the main material for making folk craft items such as shyrdak, ala kiiz, tush kiiz, as well as for decorating yurts. In addition, wool yarn was used to knit clothing, socks, mittens, and other household items.
In the nomadic life of the Kyrgyz, wool yarn was a symbol of labor and held a special place in the daily activities of women.
